Congratulations to Susan Smits! She is our November athlete of the month. Many of you may not know Susan but she is our very dedicated 6am warrior. Keep up the hard work, Susan!

November 2014 Athlete of the Month: Susan Smits

What makes you, you?
I don’t know where to start.. I have lived in Charleston for most of my life, have an amazing 10 year old daughter who I learn so much from everyday. I have a career I love, as a Property Manager! I am the person you can hear laughing from rooms away. I started Crossfit almost two years ago and can say I honestly think it saved my life.

Describe your experience at CFNC.
My experience at CFNC has been life changing! I think the coaches are amazing and the workouts are hard.. and I LOVE IT! I have seen great gains while being a member and look forward to more!

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Honestly, as silly as it is, my favorite moment so far as been walking in to the gym, looking at the workout and telling Craig, “I need 45 minute for this” (on a 25 minute cap) and then finishing it in 23 minutes. Craig said, “See Susan, you finished with even enough time to rest”

What are your major life goals?
My life goals have changed drastically over the last two years since being a part of the CrossFit community. At this point I want to be as fit and healthy as I can, not just for me, but for my daughter. I want to be able to keep up with her and CrossFit has allowed me to do that.

What are your three major CrossFit goals?
1) I can’t wait to be able to wear (and look cute in) loud crazy print spandex pants and a tank top!
2) Do all the moves correctly so Craig never has to say “Susan, you’re killing me!” again.
3) And yes, finally I would like to be able to do: Pulls ups, double unders, handstands… you know, all the CrossFit moves that I can’t do. Maybe one day I will be able to write RX next to my name! ”

What has been your favorite CrossFit WOD and why?
There as so many.. of course they are all the ones you hate while doing them, but feel great after! I like the heavy cardio workouts, I feel very accomplished when I leave unable to think straight and sweaty!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully I won’t be completely crazy from trying to raise a daughter who will be 16 in 5 years!

What is your favorite cheat meal? 
Five Guys Cheeseburger and fries!

What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?
I have already achieved so much! I went from never doing any kind of physical activity to being the most dedicated 6am workout person EVER! 🙂 and like I said earlier, I can’t wait for the day I can rock spandex!

What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?
Remembering that results don’t happen overnight!

Todays WOD:
20 minutes to work up to a heavy single clean

8 minute AMRAP:
3 Clean and Jerks (135/95)
3 Burpees over the bar
6 clean and jerks
6 burpees over the bar
9, 12, etc.
