Athlete of the Month:
Marley Tisdall

What makes you, you?
Straight outta Detroit! Ha not really, but I did grow up in Metro-Detroit Michigan – which is not actually Detroit, like at all. I’ve always been into sports and being active. Now I teach the lovely middle school kids.

Describe your experience at CFNC.
I can’t say enough about how great this last year and a half has been with this group of people. I moved to South Carolina without ever having been here, and knowing absolutely no one. Not only did I find a place that helped me become a better athlete, but I found an amazing group of friends. You all have done such a great job building a community, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it!

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment thus far?
I don’t have a specific moment, but doing the Open last year has been my favorite experience. It was my first time doing it, and I had so much fun! In a sick, twisted, I love to make myself miserable kind of way… But having everyone come together and cheer each other on through those awful workouts is what crossfit is all about!

What are your major life goals?
Follow my faith, be the best momma I can, and stay healthy and active!

What are three of your current crossfit goals?
At the top of my very long list is to GET A MUSCLE UP. Also, be proficient at chest to bar pull ups and get a strict handstand push up. But all that is on hold right now, and I just have two: maintain a healthy pregnancy and have a healthy baby!

What is your favorite WOD?
Anything involving cardio and using those legs!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
If I have learned anything in the last 2 years it’s that even if I have a plan, there is a bigger one for me. So as long as I have a healthy and happy child and family, that’s enough for me. Other than that, I really don’t know!

What is your favorite “cheat” meal?
I love breakfast. Blueberry pancakes or French toast. And eggs. And bacon. And sausage. And hash browns… Until I’m in a food coma.

What do you hope to achieve through CrossFit?
I’ve been able to learn a lot about myself, and push myself further than I thought possible, and I want to continue to do that.

What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?
Not comparing myself to others and remembering that it is a process!

Share a favorite recipe!
I’m not much of a cook, so I keep it real simple… Stir-fry is a staple meal for me.

I bake chicken breast with olive oil on it and cover it with tin foil, cook up some rice and throw veggies in the skillet. I even use the frozen “Asian style” veggies because I’m that lazy. Put it all together with either sweet and sour sauce or teriyaki – I change it up to keep things interesting. It’s fast and simple, but I love it!
