Congrats to David Putney, our December Athlete of the Month! David is one of our original CFNC members and we’ve seen him set and reach many goals at the gym and outside over the past few years. Keep up the hard work David and thanks for believing in us from the start!

What makes you, you?
My wife Heather and daughter Libby.

Describe your experience at CFNC.
Absolutely awesome! I am achieving goals that when I started CrossFit were just a fantasy. It all comes down to amazing coaches that have over time figured out my strengths and weaknesses and work on both, accordingly. Also, the community of athletes in their everyday grinding, trying to be the best they can be, is simply amazing.

What are your major life goals?
To be the best father and husband I can be because at the end of the day that will be the legacy I want to be remembered by.

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Has to be ring MU

What are your 3 major CrossFit goals?
DU more consistently, they hate me most of the time. Continued healthy lifestyle and the community of being there for each other and pushing ourselves to limits we never thought possible.

What has been your favorite CrossFit WOD and why
Any partner WOD. Being a former Marine I like the “I have your back and you have mine” aspect of a partner WOD.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Crushing WODs and continuing to be the best man that I can be.

Share a recipe for a favorite clean meal.
I’m still trying to figure out that whole clean meal stuff. Most of my meals are eaten out so I would have to go with a good filet and steamed veggies.

What is your favorite cheat meal?
St. Paul’s Rice

Sausage 1lb
1 pk Chicken noodle soup
4 ½ cups of water
1 Chopped onion
1 cup of raw rice
1 can of cream of celery soup

Brown sausage + Onion. Bring water to boil – add soup + rice. Bring back to a boil for 7 minutes. Stir in soup and sausage into a 9×11 dish cover w/foil  and bake on 350 for 1 hr.

This is something my wife makes and it’s amazing.

What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?
With my work/travel schedule it would have to be consistency.

What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Go easy at first and learn to enjoy the process. Find a friend or a group of friend that will consistently hold you accountable.

What is your personal “walkout song” or anthem?
Drowning Pool-Let the bodies hit the floor
