It’s also a new month and time to announce our March Athlete of the Month…Tracy Peterka! In case you don’t know Tracy, she is the person cheering you on mid-WOD, smiling as she works out next you while you keep wondering how on earth she has the energy to breathe, let alone talk! We LOVE the energy and zest for life Tracy brings to the gym and her constant attitude of perseverance. Keep it up, Tracy!!

What makes you, you?
I believe in an attitude of gratitude and taking pleasure in the simple things. I enjoy smiling at strangers and making small talk with cashiers and custodians. I sing along to Christian or country music in my car and swing dance to jazz with the love of my life. I am a lover of wisdom and of people. I am a question asker and a listener. I enjoy finding out what people want to be and do, what awakens their soul.

Describe your experience at CFNC.
My experience at CFNC has been nothing but positive. I dropped into the gym last year for the Open and was received with just as much support and encouragement as if I was a member. A few months later I joined and it has been the best thing I’ve done since moving to SC two years ago. I look at the programming every night before I go to bed and get up the next morning excited to go to the gym. The community and coaches at CFNC make the gym one of my favorite places to be.

What are your major life goals?
I want to be a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister, teach middle school social studies or health/P.E., and eventually earn my doctorate to teach at the college level.
What are your 3 major CrossFit goals?
Shorter term: Do every workout RX, compete more
Longer term, when I have more experience and CrossFit knowledge: Coach

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Competing with Marissa at the Famously Hot Showdown this past summer. I loved the environment, me and Maris pushing each other to do our best, cheering on all of the other CFNC teams there when we weren’t competing, and going out for pizza together after, all dead tired and happy.

What has been your favorite CrossFit WOD and why?
In a sick way, I love any workout that makes me feel like I am going to throw up because I know that is when I am pushing myself the hardest. I also really enjoy partner WODs and the longer Hero WODs because they always have a sense of communal bonding.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Married to my best friend, Casey, with a little kiddo or two and changing the lives of middle schoolers.

What is your favorite cheat meal?
Any dessert. I have a huge sweet tooth.

What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?
Dealing with injuries that hold you back from giving it your all.

What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Don’t be intimidated by the workouts. Everyone is super friendly and encouraging no matter what level you are or how scaled you have to make the workouts. Accept yourself where you are but push yourself to be better. It is a triumphant feeling when you see yourself progress as a result of your sweat, sore muscles, and clean eating.
