Athlete Profile: Laura Fogle

What makes you, you?

I think I am a passionate person whether it’s about a workout, how I like something done around the house, how I like my food cooked, and how I agree or disagree with my husband. My passion (good or bad) helps drive me in my everyday life! 

Describe your experience at CFNC.

I came to CFNC a little over a year ago after being a member of a few other gyms in my 5 years doing CrossFit. I have always loved the CrossFit environment but didn’t realize that when I came to CFNC what I had been missing out on. CFNC has an environment that immediately makes you feel as though you are surrounded by a family that supports everyone and their goals no matter what their CrossFit goals or experience may be. Most importantly what makes it such a great family to be a part of is that it also supports and holds you accountable for personal goals that you set outside of CrossFit, like confidence to wear shorts! In this past year I have achieved more PRs, overcome an injury, and learned a lot about myself as an athlete. 
What are your major life goals?
– To be happy in a career that helps people better their lives.
– Raise our kids to find a love for something that drives them to be better everyday like crossfit does for me.
-Take more time to enjoy life instead of letting life’s stresses get in the way.

What are your 3 major CrossFit goals?
-To complete an open season where every workout I feel confident about every skill.
– To make a regional event (team or individual)
-Obtain Kids Crossfit certification and coach

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
Probably getting a PR on my Clean this Winter, of 200 lbs.

What has been your favorite CrossFit WOD and why?
It’s a close call, usually anything with burpees so I would have to say either the 14.5/16.5 or 17.1!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope to be training to be competitive at a Masters Level.

Share a recipe for a favorite clean meal.

I love potatoes in any form but finding an alternative that doesn’t leaving you with that “Turkey puff” feeling and full of ingredients that are full in fat I found mashed cauliflower.
Mashed Cauliflower

1 medium head cauliflower (3 lbs) cut into pieces
3 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For garnish: chopped fresh thyme, extra virgin olive oil, homemade flavored salt, freshly ground black pepper

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the cauliflower and garlic and cook for about 10 minutes or until the cauliflower is fork tender. Drain, return it back to the hot pan and let it stand for 2 to 3 minutes with the lid on. *Save some (1/2cup) of broth cauliflower was cooked in and can be used in place or in addition to other ingredients to make creamier texture!

Transfer the cauliflower and garlic to a food processor, add the olive oil, salt and pepper and purée until smooth.

Adjust the salt and pepper to taste.

Garnish with chopped fresh thyme, salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.

* Will stay fresh In refrigerator for 3 days!

What is your favorite cheat meal?

I love a good homemade burger with French fries and anything sweet for dessert!
What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?

Being proficient at so many different skills. When you have weaknesses, CrossFit is designed to make you face those weaknesses! 
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?

Take it one day at a time. As long as you pushed your hardest each day, you will be amazed at the improvements you will see in your skills, physique, and lifestyle. I believe this sport truly changes people’s lives!
What is your personal “walkout song” or anthem?

That depends on my mood, but no matter what, any Aerosmith song will do!
