Congrats to our September Athlete of the Month Alicia Schuler who has been putting in outstanding work inside and outside the gym! We are glad to have in our Box and she has only begun to scratch the surface on her capabilities! Learn a little more about Alicia below.

What makes you, you?
My love for teaching and coaching kids. It takes a lot of patience! My ability to balance teaching, crossfit, and coaching every day. I’m literally on the go from 5:30am-8:00pm daily and it gets exhausting sometimes, but I make it work. Lastly, my red hair-don’t care and ginger spunk.

Describe your experience at CFNC.
My experience has been honestly amazing! I must say, I was a bit nervous when Shawn was trying to get me to join. After dropping in, I knew it was time to try something new. I came to CFNC with some crossfit experience. However, in a short amount of time at CFNC I learned new things that at one point seemed impossible for me to get. For example…double unders, pull-ups, overhead squats. Being in a crossfit gym with great coaches and a supportive community has really helped me learn and grow!

What are your major life goals?
I hope to continue teaching elementary school and coaching soccer at a competitive level. I would like to be happily married with kids and become your typical “soccer mom”.

What are your 3 major Crossfit goals?
That’s easy….to string together muscle ups, not be afraid of squat snatches, and to continue to step out of my comfort zone/ stop being “scared”. I also would like to compete in a competition RX for a good challenge.

What has been your favorite Crossfit moment so far?
Competing in my first open EVER and being able to do almost all of the workouts RX. Reflecting on that experience really shows how much I have learned and grown since joining CFNC.
Also, just last week getting my first muscle up!

What has been your favorite Crossfit WOD and why?
It changes all the time haha. Right now, Isabel. I remember loading my weight with 85lbs and Craig telling me to load 95lbs on the bar. I thought he was crazy…but I did it and actually loved it!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I hope still in Charleston, SC. Married to Shawn and growing our family!

Share a recipe for a favorite clean meal.
I eat the same thing every night during the week. Grilled chicken, cottage cheese, broccoli, asparagus, and salad. I don’t cook anything that requires a recipe lol. No time for that!

What is your favorite cheat meal?
Pizza or chicken fingers! Big Billys Burgers.

What is the most challenging aspect of Crossfit?
The mental part! I have a hard time getting out of my head. I tend to doubt myself out of fear.

What advice would you give to someone new to Crossfit?
Don’t compare yourself to others and trust the process. Cliché but true. With hardwork and a supportive community, you will progress and surprise yourself! Even when it really sucks, keep going. The rewards will be worth it!

What is your personal “walkout song” or anthem?
Thunderstruck by ACDC. It was on our college soccer warm-up back in the day!
