Congrats to our February athlete of the month Aaron Preston!!!! He has shown tremendous work ethic inside and outside of the box!

What makes you, you?
I would have to say my dedication and my competitiveness. I’m pretty good at staying with something and especially if it challenges me, which CrossFit does each and every day. I also despise losing. Doesn’t matter if it’s a workout or a board game. I’ll do my best to win and learn from my losses.

Describe your experience at CFNC
I came to CFNC last November looking to better my overall fitness. When I first arrived, I was already pretty strong but my conditioning was definitely lacking. It’s still a working progress and I have the great coaches at CFNC to thank for that. They work tireless with anyone and everyone there that is willing to work on their fitness. And I can’t say enough about the awesome people that are a part of the community there. Since the day I walked in the doors, everyone has welcomed me with open arms and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single day there

What are your major life goals?
One goal I have in life is to just continue to grow and learn as a person. I make it a goal to learn something or get to know someone new every day. I have learned so much from my parents and I just wish to pass on their lessons to others. This brings me to another goal of mine. My father has made a big impact in my line of work and one day I would like to get out of his shadow. I’m not saying that being “Frank’s kid” is a bad thing, it’s great because it lets me know how great of a man/ father he is, but one day I want him to be known as “Aaron’s father”.

What are your 3 major CrossFit goals?
Three major CrossFit goals are to continue to progress everyday as an athlete, get my level 1 cert, and eventually make it to regionals one day.

What has been your favorite CrossFit moment so far?
I like anything heavy, whether that be heavy cleans or snatches. But I have learned to love the assault bike. It’s a love/ hate relationship that I have with that thing.

What has been your favorite CrossFit WOD and why?
My favorite CrossFit WOD would have to be Murph. It was the very first WOD that I did back in 2015 and it definitely challenges me because there’s not a barbell in sight.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
This is a tricky one. Personally, I would like to say owning my first home with a decent yard for my dog. Professionally, I would have to say continuing to grow and learn. And hopefully by then, having a somewhat normal work schedule.

Share a recipe for a favorite clean meal.
Well I am a huge breakfast fan. So what I like to do is take a big stack of hotcakes and put a few fried eggs on top of them. But you can’t over cook the eggs. You’ve got to have them where when you cut into the eggs, the yoke is a little runny.

What is your favorite cheat meal?
Breakfast hands down. More of French toast kind of guy.

What is the most challenging aspect of CrossFit?
Taking each day as a learning experience. You’re not going to crush every workout and every workout isn’t going to be all of your strengths. You’ve got to take these moments as learning experiences and grow from them. That’s what’s so great about CrossFit. It’s a process, and you’ve got to learn to love the process. Yes everyone has an end goal, but you can’t be looking so far in the future that you don’t live in the moment. And BURPEES.

What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit?
Take it one day at a time. You might be sore or feel like you’ll never get to be at the level of others. But you’re not everyone else. You’ve got to make goals that obtainable for your fitness level and know that it does get better. That you’re confidence in the gym will grow and will eventually lead to confidence outside the gym. And just enjoy the process.
